Red Hook WIFI

Red Hook WIFI is a community designed, community built wireless network in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The project will expand WIFI coverage to small businesses that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy in the neighborhood. Young people from the Red Hook Houses will be trained to build and maintain the network and to develop the online content, providing them with valuable workforce training. The project aims to increase network resiliency and to develop a cost-effective model that could be replicated in other NYC communities. Red hook WiFi will provide access to online resources and information, and allow residents to receive real time updates in the event of a power outage.
